• International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking

International days are occasions to educate the public on issues of concern, to mobilize political will and resources to address global problems, and to celebrate and reinforce achievements of humanity. The existence of international days predates the establishment of the United Nations, but the UN has embraced them as a powerful advocacy tool. June 26 is observed as International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking every year after the United Nations General

Assembly passed a resolution on December 7, 1987, as an

“expression of its determination to strengthen action and cooperation to achieve the goal of an international society free of drug abuse.”

Supported each year by individuals, communities and various organizations worldwide, the global observance of International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking aims to “raise awareness of the major problem that illicit drugs represent to society.”

‘Health for Justice. Justice for Health’, the theme for International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking 2019, highlights that “justice and health are two sides of the same coin when it comes to addressing drug problems.”

Metas Adventist college, Surat also celebrated this day with all the zeal and enthusiasm. To promote this day and to create awareness amongst the youth ‘Vivacity Club’ of Metas Adventist College along with its volunteers prepared a street play on the same theme. This play was performed as a flash mob in to the canteen area of the college. Total 16 students performed for this street play which portrayed ill effects of the consumption of different drugs. Also it tried to put forth how the families of the drug addicted people struggle in different dimensions of life. Approximately 300 students witnessed this play in Metas Adventist College. The play was hugely appreciated by all.

Also the club distributed badges to all the students against drug abuse. After having a successful performance in the college the team went to a nearby Sarvajanik College of Engineering and Technology. Here also the team along with the mentors and other faculty performed a play. A dome was allotted for the team for this performance. Almost 500 students were watching the play.

Also we distributed badges against drugs to all the students. According to the feedbacks they appreciated the efforts taken by the college and were thankful to raise the awareness in such a connecting way. In a nut shell, the event was a successful one! Thanks to the management and faculties who helped us through.
